First Night Out, TACocina

IMG_3230A fabulous dinner out for our first night. With a world of cuisine open to us we collectively chose Mexican. (50% proximity, 50% we were starving.) TACocina on 9th had great veggie food and 2 for 1 margaritas. The bill for 8? +$300!

Welcome to New York City.

from Davar Ardalan/NPR

from Davar Ardalan/NPR

The martinis my dad made for us at Christmas were inspired by a recipe he heard on NPR. For the curious, here it is

  • 1 ounce fresh-squeezed ginger juice
  • 1 ounce triple sec
  • 3 ounces Grey Goose vodka
  • 1 ounce pineapple juice
  • 1 ounce Rose’s lime juice

You can find the original story on the NPR website.

Plants Love Life

ThistleA fascinating article on the sensory modalities of plant life. From The New York Times.

“Plants are not static or silly,” said Monika Hilker of the Institute of Biology at the Free University of Berlin. “They respond to tactile cues, they recognize different wavelengths of light, they listen to chemical signals, they can even talk” through chemical signals. Touch, sight, hearing, speech.
